A reprodution of a Kangxi era China antique (1662-1722. The earliest know European Monteith bowl is an English silver example (circa 1683). Named for a Scotsman whose cloak was edged with u-shapes notches, the Monteith bowl was used by suspending wine goblets from its rim. This ingenious idea spread through Europe, and its many variations today are thus called Monteith.
